A unique and special Indian Street Food kitchen Thali Tray.

Based in Arch 2 of the Byker Bridge we are located in the vibrant center of Ouseburn. Our food combines authentic Indian techniques and ingredients with a contemporary influence, all served in a casual dining venue.

Thali Tray began as a concept the moment Josh began his 6-month food tour of India, where he volunteered in kitchens throughout the numerous culinary regions. During this time Josh worked in every type of establishment from famous 100-year-old restaurants to daily street food carts.

Thali Tray first launched as a mobile catering unit in July 2018 and after only 3 months of trading, Thali Tray was awarded ‘The People’s Choice Winner’ through a public vote at the hugely popular ‘Argie Bhaji Curry Battle 3.0’ at Wylam Brewery (the north east’s biggest curry battle).

  • Outstanding and inventive. The food was flavoursome and the beer flowing. There’s a selection of meaty, veggie or vegan curries to choose from, or you can opt to create your own tray. The best part? Probably the prices - really reasonable!

  • Visited here for the first time. Hats off to the chef! Food was delicious and not too spicy. Really nice atmosphere around the fire pit and bar staff really friendly and helpful when it comes to choosing the right beer. Will defo return!

  • Thali Tray is just incredible. I love to eat out and find new places, especially the smaller street food / pop up style places like this. I have visited here three times now, most recently on Friday to try out their new menu. I can honestly say this is the best Indian food I have had outside of India. It is genuinely authentic food, served in a traditional Indian way, that far surpasses any Indian food I have had at the more expensive Indian restaurants in the UK. This time I had the Goan Thali. The vindaloo was fantastic, a brilliant proper sweet/hot taste but coming in at a medium rating it was honestly not too spicy at all. The pork was incredible. The rest of the tray was equally as impressive. I opted for the puri for a more traditional bread, but the Naan looked great too. We had the Corn Bhajiya and the masala fries which were brilliant. To top all of this off we had (I think it was) a New World IPA brewed in house. Perfect accompaniment to the curry. This place is just brilliant. All of my friends now buzz about it and can’t wait to get In to try the new menu. It’s also cheap!! I think I paid less than £20 for the meal, the sides and a pint of their own beer. For that quality it’s great value.
